Communication Strategy — Community Relations — Media Relations

Hu Honua Bioenergy is modernizing and refitting the old Hilo Coast Processing Co. sugar mill at Peepekeo, Hamakua Coast, on Hawaii Island.  When completed, it will put nearly 24 megawatts of electricity onto the grid, using locally grown biomass as its fuel.

The plant originally used biomass—bagasse from sugarcane—then was permitted to use coal.  The new facility will return to biomass, this time from the eucalyptus tree plantations along the coast.

H&P handles communication strategy and community outreach for Hu Honua as the plant is being refurbished and is readied for operation, expected in the first quarter of 2013.
