(Honolulu, HI – January 11, 2011) – Rachel Hashimoto, a senior communication major at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, has accepted an internship at Hastings and Pleadwell: A Communication Company (H&P). She will be with H&P until April 2011.
Rachel will work with partners and account executives on client projects to gain experience in the field of Public Relations. Although this is her first internship at a PR firm, Rachel has qualities that will benefit H&P.
Rachel, who will graduate in May with her Bachelors degree in Communication and a minor in Speech, has taken courses in media ethics, professional presentations, persuasion, and nonverbal communication. Earning A’s in all of these classes and maintaining a 3.8 GPA reflects Rachel’s understanding of such topics as well as her ability to learn.
H&P works with an wide range of culturally and industry diverse clients. Doing business in Hawaii requires an awareness of local customs and a respect for various cultures and Rachel’s Hawaii roots will benefit that work as will her other experience.
Besides her internship, Rachel is employed at Abercrombie & Fitch, at Ala Moana Shopping Center. She is a sales associate and deals with a many foreign shoppers, primarily from Japan and Australia. Abercrombie and Fitch employees know that customer service is their top priority. This retail background facilitates Rachel’s mindfulness of diverse cultures as well as professional customer interaction. This should translate well for H&P’s clients.
In addition to the hands-on work experience, Rachel is also receiving college credits for this internship. An evaluation of her performance from her supervisor at H&P will be an influential factor in her grade for the course.
