Barbara A. Hastings and Barbra An Pleadwell formed Hastings & Pleadwell: A Communication Company to provide a holistic approach to developing image and articulating message.

Our stated mission: Hastings & Pleadwell: A Communication Company applies common sense to define client messages and imaginative strategies to communicate them to target audiences. H&P promotes good corporate citizenship for the firm and its clients.

H&P team members are expert communicators, experienced and talented in outreach programs, public awareness and crisis communication plans, shaping media strategy, implementing multi-media campaigns and brand-building strategies. The firm’s partners play an active role planning, designing, and implementing every client’s program. Working closely with associates, the partners ensure clients receive individual attention.

Hastings & Pleadwell has had measurable success with social marketing in Hawaii. One of the most difficult areas of communication, social marketing’s aim is behavior change or a shift in cultural norm. H&P has worked on issues related to environmental preservation, recycling, illegal dumping, tobacco control and homelessness.

Both partners have taught publication management, journalism and other communication courses at Chaminade University. They maintain their commitment to mentorship through an internship program.

Hastings has been a journalist and professional communicator in Honolulu and on the Mainland for 40 years. Pleadwell began her professional communication career working as a journalist in Guam and Hawaii before her transition to public relations in the ’90s.
