Hastings & Pleadwell: A Communication Company (H&P) offers internship opportunities throughout the year. Interns get hands-on experience and work closely with H&P partners and account executives. They gain basic skills required to work in public relations and related fields.

Up to two interns at a time are accepted for H&P’s Hilo and Honolulu offices.

Interns work on client accounts performing a number of tasks including but not limited to:

  • Research
  • Drafting and issuing press releases
  • Copy and messaging development
  • Media engagement
  • Monitoring media outlets and tracking news and related coverage
  • Preparing materials for presentations and promotional opportunities
  • Updating websites and providing social media support

Interns participate in twice-weekly meetings with H&P staff and partners. These meetings are a regular opportunity to collaborate, bounce ideas and get direct feedback.

Qualified candidates: Motivated, able to multi-task, eager to learn with good written and oral communication skills.

Internship schedules are tailored to student schedules and H&P workspace availability. Interns are required to commit to 15-18 hours a week for the duration of the relationship. First time H&P interns are unpaid. H&P provides evaluations and other documentation for college credits. After a period of three months, interns are encouraged to apply for a paid internship with H&P.
